The Mic is Yours: Mastering Self-Advocacy

The Power of Self-Advocacy in Your Next Chapter

The transition from high school to college and adulthood brings a dramatic shift in accountability. In high school, the system is structured to catch struggling students; in the real world, the system is designed to let individuals fail unless they speak up. "The Mic is Yours: Mastering Self-Advocacy" is a dynamic, highly interactive workshop designed to bridge this gap. This custom-tailored program equips students with the practical communication tools needed to articulate their needs in academic, professional, and relational settings, while training mentors and educators to coach rather than "do."

Available both in-person and virtually via Zoom, this clinician-led workshop uses a structured, slide-guided curriculum featuring practical frameworks, including:

  • The "Know Thyself" Audit: Helping participants uncover personal strengths, identify friction points, and explicitly define what resources they need to succeed.

  • The "Professional Pivot" Scripting: Teaching the signature Fact-Impact-Ask communication formula to help participants request accommodations, negotiate expectations, or address conflicts without sounding demanding.

  • Overcoming Psychological Barriers: Unpacking the root causes of silence - such as fear of rejection, imposter syndrome, and chronic people-pleasing.

  • The 4-Step Self-Advocacy Framework: A step-by-step methodology focused on clarity, emotional regulation, precise language starters, and resilient outcome acceptance.

Through real-world scenario practice and mentor-led role-playing, participants actively build their communication muscles, culminating in an actionable "24-Hour Goal."
